In The City Music Convention – Manchester 5-7 October 2008.

As part of ITC, Jarvis Cocker presents a debate-cum-seminar on the application of lyrics in pop music with “Saying The Unsayable.”

This shot shows Jarvis Cocker discussing the lyrics to The Beatles track I Am The Walrus. Seen looking into Lennon’s usage of the surreal to develop his narrative, Jarvis takes particular interest in the line, “Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.” and provided a great silhouette against the Powerpoint backdrop of Lennon’s lyrics for this photo.

Detroit Social Club – South (In The City, 2008)

Somewhere between The Velvet Underground, Tim Friese-Green and Gram Parsons are Detroit Social Club.

Within the very intimate ‘South’ venue, I was looking for something other than ‘front on’ that could display the fact that the audience was almost on top of the band. When David Burn had knelt down briefly during a song, I found this moment.
