Santi White’s style has been compared often to that of M.I.A and Missing Persons. Listen beyond the rap and R&B underpinning and you will hear the spiked pop of Yeah Yeah Yeahs mixed with the darker melodies of The Pixies for an all together sublime musical experience (the latter she even cites as a big influence – good on ya Santi!)

I first saw her play to a packed and intimate Roadhouse back in May 2008. This evening Santogold was occupying the support slot for Kanye West at the M.E.N Arena.

I’d photographed The Fratellis a few months ago for Versus Cancer / XFM and knew the band to offer a solid show – but were not ones for leaving their position on the microphone. I didn’t want another ‘vocalist belting it out into the mic’ shot and noticed the stage lighting could offer a chance for something interesting with three spots clustered together centre stage that suddenly picked out drummer Gordon McRory whilst John Lawler occupied the foreground. The moment lasted a brief second and produced the lighting for this shot.

Shot for UMusic / All The Worlds / Robot PR

Based in Lancaster for over thirty years, Ludus Dance is Britain’s Leading Dance in Education Company.

The Ludus Touring Company creates and tours contemporary dance-based performances and workshops specifically designed to explore themes and issues relevant to young people, and the Ludus Dance Development Department offers a comprehensive range of community dance activities for people of all ages, abilities, cultures and backgrounds, both locally and across the County of Lancashire.

id:me takes a new approach to issues of identity and diversity and what it means to inhabit and share our world today – exploring our understanding of community and challenges our sense of belonging by asking Who are we? Where do we come from? What would it be like to walk in someone else’s shoes?

Image is from a series of production shots taken 19 September at the Nuffield Theatre for Ludus Dance.

Saturday saw The Courteeners help to bring home an anti-racist message during the Love Music Hate Racism Carnival at the Magna Centre, Rotherham in front of a sold out crowd of over 4000.

The event, arranged by John McClure and LMHR, featured amongst others, Kaiser Chiefs, Reverend and the Makers, Roll Deep, Richard H Kirk from Cabaret Voltaire and The Courteeners.

Taking place on the outskirts of Sheffield in a huge ex-steelworks factory, the gig was arranged to show the swell of anti-racist support in the area after two seats fell to BNP candidates in Rotherham’s local council elections.
